WALL FOR WESTBROOK!

The Washington Wizards acquired guard Russell Westbrook from the Houston Rockets for guard John Wall and a protected first-round draft pick in 2023.

What does it give the Washington Wizards
Wow! NBA trades do not usually involve superstars being traded for each other, but this one is a rare exception. In Westbrook, the Wizards get an explosive point guard who is likely to become the immediate focal point of the offense--an improving offense that also includes shooting guard Bradley Beal, second-year forward Rui Hachimura and sixth man Davis Bertans. Westbrook is a little bit older than Wall but far healthier at this point in their NBA careers. This could end up being a terrific trade for D.C.

What does it give the Houston Rockets
The Rockets were expected to deal at least one of their two superstar guards (is James Harden next?), so it is not entirely shocking to see this deal go down. However, did Houston get enough in return for Westbrook? When healthy, Wall could easily replace Westbrook's production and offensive flair, but his injury history is troublesome. His injuries are likely the reason why the Rockets were also able to land a protected future first-rounder in this deal. Wall is as ball-dominant as Westbrook and Harden are, so this may lead to another deal involving the latter fairly soon.

Fantasy impact
Ideally, all three of Westbrook, Wall and Harden will be playing separately in 2020-21. For now, Westbrook is the likely winner after this trade because the Wizards will probably be his team from now on. His fantasy stock rises immediately and significantly after this deal. Wall is a major injury risk, but with plenty of reward. He is not a great fantasy pick at present time, but could become a mid-round steal if Harden is dealt. As for the latter, he will continue to produce wherever he plays, and with whomever is on his team, in 2020-21.
