The Pittsburgh Pirates acquired first baseman John Nogowski from the St. Louis Cardinals for cash.
What does it give the Pittsburgh Pirates
Nogowski is 28, so he is not a prospect at this point. However, he may get a much better opportunity in Pittsburgh to prove himself as a big-league first baseman. He is a good gamble with zero downside.
What does it give the St. Louis Cardinals
Since the Cardinals recently designated Nogowski for assignment, they did well to get back cash in exchange for his services. Nogowski was not seeing much action in St. Louis behind Paul Goldschmidt.
Fantasy impact
There is no fantasy value in Nogowski at present time. Things could change if he is given a legitimate chance to start at first base for the Bucs. Until then, he is off the radar.
