The Diamondbacks are replacing one infielder (Domingo Leyba, who was designated for assignment) with another in Vargas. The 29-year-old Vargas will provide infield depth for Arizona.
What does it give the Pittsburgh Pirates
The Pirates recently designated Vargas for assignment, so they were at least able to get back some cash for his services. He made only seven appearances (13 at-bats) with Pittsburgh this year.
