Steckenrider was placed on Triple-A Las Vegas' restricted list for an undisclosed reason on March 31, the team's official site reports.
Steckenrider signed a minor-league contract with the Athletics on Saturday that includes an invitation to MLB spring training, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Has a tall, lanky frame with some deception in his delivery. Can be used as an effective closer in the minor leagues. Strikes batters out with regularity at lower levels. Must keep his walks to a minimum, especially in Major League Baseball, in order to maximize output. Needs to find a much greater level of consistency on the mound.
Long Range Potential: Solid reliever.
