An exceptional athlete for his size (he converted to defense from tight end), he had excellent speed and explosiveness early on in his NFL career. Could burst into the backfield with regularity. Was a playmaker. At times throughout his career he had some trouble with his technique down in the trenches. Was not very good at all when forced to drop back into pass coverage. Was fairly durable over his extended career.
