A true run-stuffer up the middle, he could occupy more than one blocker. His speed and overall athleticism were exceptional for a guy with his bulk. A converted guard, he was blessed with rare size and strength for a defensive tackle. Was also able to play nose tackle or defensive end. Was a somewhat one-dimensional defender who commanded double teams and clogged the interior (but not much else). Was not a great pass rusher and lacked coverage/reaction instincts. Took some time to fully get his game together at the National Football League level.
