Murphy will start at catcher and bat sixth in Wednesday's game against the Nationals, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Murphy has gone 2-for-7 with a double and three strikeouts over his first three Cactus League games.
Powerfully built, he displays plenty of home run ability in the minor leagues as well as a game-changing arm from behind home plate. Is an excellent receiver with good leadership qualities. His pitch recognition at the dish needs more work, as he usually sports a rather porous walk/strikeout ratio (even in the minor leagues). Can also be guilty of swinging for the fences too much.
Long Range Potential: Solid, all-round catcher with some upside.
