Alvarez has been participating in the Dodgers' minor-league camp and is expected to open the season with one of Los Angeles' affiliates, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.
Alvarez (shoulder) cleared waivers Monday and was outrighted to minor-league camp, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.
Owns a very projectable (6-3) frame and a tremendous fastball. Also throws a wicked slider, so he can dominate when on top of his game. His delivery is silky smooth and easy. He struggles with both his control and command, which largely negates the pure stuff he displays with his fastball-slider combination. His changeup needs a ton of work, as well.
Long Range Potential: Talented, erratic right-hander with good upside.
